They did everything together. Roger even stepped in front of a car to save Jake. But when they got to high school, and Jake got better at basketball, things started to change. Jake started hanging out with the popular crowd. Before he knew it, he didn't have time for Roger at all. And now Roger is dead. None of Jake's new friends even know that he and Roger were once friends. They don't understand what this loss means. Jake wonders what's the point of it... “To save a life” is a movie I will talk about for a long time. It was so impressive and meaningful. The main character of the movie is Jake, one of the most popular boys at school with fame, lots of friends, a basketball scholarship and a girlfriend. He had a best friend Roger, totally different from him- with no friends and no hope. They stood up for each other despite of everything but high school pulled them apart. Jake didnt care anymore about him but one day changed everything. A sudden... Jake and Roger were inseparable. Best buds. Roger even saved Jake from certain death once, paying for the cost. But high school was a whole different ball game. Jake climbed to the top of the social ladder, but Roger stayed several rungs beneath him. Their friendship deteriorated to nothing- it was like they didnt even know each other. One day Roger brings a gun to school, and ends his life right in front of Jake. Jake had no idea what Roger had been going through... This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this book so much. It's sad what teenagers have to face on a daily basis. One hopes that more teenagers would be like the main character when he realized that there's more to life than trying to uphold a certain "image. This was a great book very deep and it made me cry. I read this book over the summer for an independent reading book for school. I was interested in this book because it's about a high school student who plays basketball. But little did he know that his life gets turned upside down. To Save a Life is a nonfiction book which I liked because you can relate to what is happening. The start of the book was very intense. It mainly takes place at the high school that the main character Jake goes too. Jake is the main character that is most brought up... This book was better than I expected, and I'm eager to now see the movie. I liked how raw it was, but as a youth leader, it was also heartbreaking at times. This was on my Possible Unhaul TBR, but I think I'm going to keep it for now. Not a bad read. A bit preachy though... Realistic and absorbing. A couple spots are a bit saccharine, but overall good. Trigger Warning: Depression. bullying, suicide This book packed such a punch. It was well written, and dealt with very serious and real issues that many teens face. I loved the character development and that we got to see a very real and genuine change in the main character, Jake, throughout the novel. This book to save a life is a very good book. It is about a kid named Jake who is a basketball all star and his beautiful cheerleader girlfriend. He has a friend named Rodger and this friend of his grew up with him all through school. Then on day Amy Briggs came up and asked Jake if he wanted to go to the party that they were having and had to choose between her or Rodger. Rodger told him to go with her and that's when it started. He started forgetting about Johnny and when he would walk past... The Main character in this book is Jake. Jake witnessed his best friend Roger kill himself. Jake had not really spoke to Roger in a long time because Jake became popular and did not think his new friends would accept Roger because his leg was messed up from a accident that happened when they were younger. After Jake see's Roger shoot himself he see's so many others getting bullied and just stands there he has so many chances to stand up for them but he let his pride stand in the way of that. He... Rate: 4 I was hooked into reading this book by the first chapter. The story line is relatable to teenagers and young adults which helped while reading it. The book was easy to follow but still kept you wanting to read more about the relationship Jake Taylor (main character) has with his friends and girlfriends and how he learns to accept and love god. For a kid who had everything a high schooler could want, he finally realized what was important in life. My favorite part of the book was when Jake... To Save A Life is about a young man who suffers from the loss of his best friend growing up to suicide. Through out the book you come to know the characters both the main one and the one who commited suicide. It is a very touching story that will have you crying at the end. you watch how jake the main character comes to grip with life, love and the gospel. It is an eye opener to show the main character the important things in life. You read about how jakes life changes all in the matter of a few... This was such a great book. So much character development that was really interesting. This is really an inspiring book and really shows how much guilt can plague people. I love how the church and God were portrayed. It also showed that of course there are 'fakers' in the religion, but there are also really good seeds. It was just a great book! All the hardships it showed were amazing. It portrayed how teenagers react in certain situations, how life plays out, and how God comes into our lives... Absolutely amazing! At some point in your life, you can relate to Roger or Jonny. Sometimes it's too late when the "Jake" in your life makes an appearance. This story is such an amazingly written novel. Every girl wants to be Amy, the most popular girl dating the jock. Ever Guy wants to be Jake; beautiful girlfriend, scholarship to your dream school. everything is perfect. Then something happens and the whole world shifts. Sometimes it's too late when the Jake in your life makes an appearance. Chris is someone that everyone would love to have as a youth leader. this is a great teen christian fiction novel. As an adult I really enjoyed it. I think it really addressed the stress and issues that teenagers face and it was written from a perspective that wasn't cheezy or patronizing. There are very few novels that don't try and wrap all the ends up in a neat package at the end, this one lets you know that it takes work, sacrifice, and faith to face your problems and rise above them. Great book for teens and parents. This book tells the story of a high-school seinor, Jake, who everyone thinks has its all when really inside he is crumbling. His best friend just died and could Jake have been able saved him? The story really makes you dig deeper when Jake begins to question what really matters in life and help others who are struggling. I think this has to be one of my favorite books. My pastor gave me the movie and i watched maybe ten minutes then shut it off ran to the bookstore and grabbed the book amazing movie and book. It changed my thinking and just one thing you do sets off a chain of events that could mean the loss of a life or even to save one. I read this before I went to go see the movie, and I must say that I could not put it down. I haven't had a book like that since "Do Hard Things" by Alex & Brett Harris, and if you know me at all, you'll know I basically have read that book a thousand times. It's my favorite book of all-time. This one also did that to me. It radically changed my outlook on life. Definitely recommend it. i enjoyed this book. quick read. way more religious than i anticipated. i had no idea this was a religiously based book. i'm not anti religion. however, im also not a complete bible thumper. this one was def a little more on the faith side. not a terrible thing for many people. good morals throughout the book and for the most part enjoyable. I can't describe how much i love this book, and the entire series. It's such a touching book and if your like me once you start reading it it's impossible to put down. I had watched the movie before I even knew there was a book. The book followed the movie and mainly had some scenes line for line but the things that were different just made it soooo much better! well i finished the book to save a life last year it was an excelant read i loved it and cried but the story also had its downfalls and i wandered why when jake became popular why he chose not to talk or hangout with his best friend rodger and jake was the cause for rodger killing himself cause he didnt fit in or feel wanted I really wanted to read something a bit different to the usual YA and Im so glad that I did! As a Christian it was so inspiring to read but it would be suitable for anyone of any faith to read too and enjoy it as much as I did! Effectual yet poorly executed. I found it struck my pre-teen heart, but after trying to reevaluate it years later, i couldn't make myself reach the second chapter. I rated it solely from the remembered experience. Isn't it sad when time causes books to lose their magic? This is a book based off of a movie; usually this is isn't true, but in this case, the movie was much better. I would not recommend the book; I do, however, recommend the movie ( To Save a Life" to everyone. I thought this was a great book. A high school basketball star has a friend who is "uncool. The main character goes through his senior trying to save lives because of the circumstances that happened.

Since Sherwood Pictures released FACING THE GIANTS and FIREPROOF, I expected other churches to be inspired and step out into the field of film making. The surprise success with Sherwood Pictures cannot be expected to be reproduced, in fact, just the opposite is expected. Just as Hallmark Pictures seems to reproduce every blockbuster hit that comes along on a much smaller scale with poorer results, we can expect other churches to release a few clunkers in hopes of attaining the same success that seems to have graced Sherwood Pictures.
That was my expectation when I discovered that TO SAVE A LIFE was the creation of Jim Britts, youth pastor of New Song Community Church in Southern California and that over 80% of the cast and crew were locals, some with no experience at all.
Let me start my review off by admitting that I was HORRIBLY WRONG. As I sat in the dark during the advanced screening of TO SAVE A LIFE and began to wonder to myself, is it possible? Can lightning strike TWO churches with an unexpected success story? I am pleased to announce that it does indeed appear that lightning has strike twice. NEW SONG PICTURES is the NEW Sherwood Pictures of Christian films and they are going to make quite an impact in Hollywood.
High school stud / jock, Jake Taylor (Randy Wayne) seems to have it all, popularity, friends and the girl. But when his popular lifestyle forces him to choose between his best friend and the IN-crowd, the results become deadly.
Now with the weight of guilt on his back, parents on the brink of divorce, and a girlfriend expecting a baby, his whole life seems to be falling apart, until he meets the local youth pastor and a few Christian teenagers. Now he must make the ultimate choice.
The story seems simple and trite, but it's so well-written and greatly performed, that it seems fresh all over again. Randy Wayne(Numb3ers, The Haunting of Molly Hartley) is no amateur actor, and his performance shines alongside a cast of true professionals, like Deja Kreutzberg (CSI Miami, As the World Turns) who plays Amy, the popular party girl who introduces him to the In-crowd and D. David Morin who has an extensive history in Christian films, Time Changers, The Wager, Mercy Streets, The Moment After, The Ultimate Gift & A Vow to Cherish.
The quality of this film was surprisingly top notch and the results seem to touch and challenge the group of teenagers I reviewed the film with. They laughed at all the right spots and never once seemed bored or distracted by the engaging story. The rousing round of applause at the end was the final seal of approval by all who attended, myself included.
TO SAVE A LIFE will spark a movement among young people with the hard-hitting message that every person matters to God. The Gospel message is presented in a bold way, but not in-your-face, like witnessing a testimony unfold, instead of sitting through a preachy sermon. It goes down smooth and with flavor that leaves it's viewers wanting more. TO SAVE A LIFE will do more than entertain, it will strike a revival in the heart of teenagers and Christians alike. This is how Christians films should be done.
Set to be released in theaters on January 22, 2010. Make sure you don't miss this Christian movie event.

Continue reading Kid, 11 years old August 23, 2016 Great for most teenagers This movie is an amazing Christian movie with a wonderful meaning. There is mild language and some suicide, but this movie is great for most teenagers What's the story? After his childhood best friend, Roger (Robert Bailey, Jr. who once saved his life and whom he abandoned in pursuit of popularity. kills himself at school, Jake ( Randy Wayne) grows listless and unfocused. A popular high school senior, he no longer finds joy in the partying that has occupied his social life. He wants to understand Rogers motivation and longs for some peace. But getting that isnt easy: His friends and girlfriend dont understand why hes so tortured and wont drink anymore and why hes drawn to the church. But embracing a Christian life doesnt come easily, either. Is it any good? A youth pastor pleads for his flock not to be judgmental in one pivotal scene, but TO SAVE A LIFE is smothered by heavy-handedness. It means well, but it tries too hard to drive home its message, making for an awkwardly told tale. Solutions to teen angst are simplistic, like when high-schoolers decide to get opposing groups together by sitting in the school yard and inviting everyone to join. In another scene, a neighbor invites a senior to stop in for cookies. after he helps her with her groceries. The film heaps problem after problem on the shoulders of troubled characters as if theyre being punished for their supposedly rudderless lives. Plus, the endings pat. And the villains? Theyre bad to the (stereotypical) bone. But some moments ring with authenticity. Jakes struggle to make sense of Rogers devastating act, for one, and his reunion with Rogers mother after a long estrangement. One boys sweetly dorky way of asking a girl out comes across as charming. And a pastors explanation of how God and faith figure in ones life is refreshingly complex, tinted with a few shades of gray. Still, the film never quite rises above its afterschool-special vibe. Talk to your kids about... Families can talk about what drives Jake to change. Why did he dump his friendship with Roger in the first place? What was the payoff? And why does Rogers death trigger his soul-searching? Is this a message movie? If so, how does it deliver that message? Parents, talk with your teens about the real-life consequences of behavior like underage drinking and sex. What do the characters in the movie learn about these topics? Are they realistic lessons? The lyrics came from an experience singer Isaac Slade had with a teenager who was struggling with crack addiction, while working as a mentor on a camp for troubled youths. In an interview with USA Today, Slade explains: One of the kids I was paired up with was a musician. Here I was, a protected suburbanite, and he was just 17 and had all these problems. And no one could write a manual on how to save him. In another interview he adds: He was a recovering addict, coming out of a really tough teenage life. The song is more of a memoir about his slow motion decent and all the relationships he lost along the way. It is the easiest one for me to sing every night.
In an interview with USA Today, lead singer Isaac Slade explained that he wrote this song about an experience he had working at a camp for troubled youths: One of the kids I was paired up with was a musician. Here I was, a protected suburbanite, and he was just 17 and had all these problems. And no one could write a manual on how to save him. I got a lot of email about it. One kid died in a car accident, and I guess it had been the last song he downloaded from his computer. They played it at his funeral, and some of his friends got 'Save A Life' tattooed on their arms. The response has been overwhelming. " >> Suggestion credit: Jaque - Alvin, TX In the February 2007 Observer Music Monthly, Slade said: I still get an incredible number of emails about that song. We've got friends who think it's great not having to think because they're drunk or high. But there's a better way to be happy. The Fray is comprised of devout Christians, and this song certainly has some religious subtext, with specific references to God: And I pray to God he hears you The Christian music community embraced the song, sending it to #4 on the Christian Songs chart, but it wasn't marketed as a religious song and was also a hit in the secular community - it made #3 on the Hot 100 and was also a #1 Adult Contemporary hit. "How To Save A Life" took off in America after it appeared on the second season of the hit ABC TV show Grey's Anatomy. The song was used in the episode "Superstition" after the show's music supervisor saw The Fray perform in Los Angeles. The song became a minor hit after being used in the episode, then gained more popularity when it was used in the promotional campaign for the third season of Grey's Anatomy. On September 21, 2006, a Grey's Anatomy version of the music video (similar to the one made for Snow Patrol's " Chasing Cars. was shown prior to the third season premiere of the show. The song was also released as one of the tracks on the Grey's Anatomy, Vol. 2 soundtrack album, and would later be used in the trailer for the Australian release of the show. This was also featured on the Scrubs episode "My Lunch. as well as the episode "My Night to Remember. where the character J. D. looks back on the awkward moments in his life and says how "That Fray song starts playing. When this song starts playing, J. quickly says, No not that Fray song. and "She Is" starts playing instead. Other TV appearances for this song include One Tree Hill, The Hills, 8th & Ocean and Cold Case. HBO used the song for its "Summer Image" television campaign, and it was also used in the trailer for the film Reign Over Me. >> Suggestion credit: Bertrand - Paris, France, for above 4 Lead guitarist David Welsh told I Like Music the story of this song: The song came about very organically. Isaac had this idea on the piano of this kind of lullaby. Then he concocted this repetitious drum beat that moved the lullaby along with Ben. The lyrics came from an experience Isaac had with a teenager he was mentoring who was struggling with drugs and addiction. It was just a very natural process, the song developed and the lyrics fitted very well. This was one of the first songs to rack up huge numbers of digital downloads, as consumers made the switch from CDs to MP3s. It sold 3 million downloads, making The Fray the only group to hit that number in the '00s other than Coldplay, whose " Viva La Vida " also moved 3 million.
